How to - Take in your jeans waist

What to do when your jeans waist it is too big?

There are several ways that you can reduce your waist. In my previous post; I showed how to reduce the waist by using an elastic in the back waistband.

In this tutorial, the waist is reduced at the center of your back.

Step 1: Take off the CB (center back loop), but keep hold of it. This will be sewn on again.Unpick the waistband partially to have enough room to sew the waistband.

Step 2: Fold the seam in half and take in the amount needed.I folded the seam and took in 2cm (4cm total). This needs to finish to 0cm into a dart (v-shape) by 8-10cm long, to ensure it doesn’t reduce your hips. This can be done by machine or hand back stitch, as shown.

Step 3: Reduce the same amount in the waistband CB and cut off the excess fabric.

Step 4: Sew up waistband unto the reduced waist, ensuring this fits.

Step 5: Sewn back the belt loop in the original place. Bartack stitch(stitch that goes back and forth) at top and bottoms to secure loop.

Tip:

The sides (outseam leg) will sit further back, as you are pulling the waist in.

If this isn’t what you like to see and you have no side pockets. Then I suggest taking in the waist on the sides.

Also, you can hand sew with a backstitch if you don’t have a sewing machine.
